Bill with Savings Potential of More Than $1 Billion Passes Committee, Heads to House Floor

RICHMOND, Va.: Today, Delegate John J. Bell (D – Loudoun) defended his bill, HB 1804, before the Transportation Committee. The bill reported out of committee on a 12-7 vote. The bill directs VDOT to employ practical design methods.

“As a former Air Force finance officer, I’m always looking for ways to ensure good stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and HB 1804 is a great way to trim up the budget where we can,” said Delegate John J. Bell. “Practical design methods, such as taking advantage of waivers and reusing sound materials, employed during the construction process have a huge savings potential – more than $1 billion over five years. By directing VDOT to use this method for as many projects as possible, we are leveraging taxpayer dollars to work best for the Commonwealth, and therefore able to complete more projects with the transportation budget we have.”
