Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve you in the Virginia House of Delegates.
I want to share with you an update on the ways that I am celebrating the accomplishments and lives of those that live in the 87th District.
Commending and Memorial Resolutions
Commending and Memorial Resolutions are a way in which a Delegate or Senator can celebrate something someone has accomplished, or to memorialize a person who has passed. Resolutions in the House of Delegates are passed every Friday. I'd like to share with you a few of the individuals and organizations that have done great things during 2017.
For the first time ever, Dulles Airport had a direct flight to Delhi, India operated by Air India. I introduced HJ 243 to commend the airline on their hard work to make our neighborhood a diverse and cosmopolitan place.
Loudoun County Public Schools
In back-to-back years 2016 and 2017, Loudoun County Public Schools was named in the Annual AP District Honor Rolls by the College Board. LCPS was one of five school districts in the Commonwealth to earn placement on the Honor Roll. This is a testament to their hard work and dedication of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. That's why I'm proud to offer HJ 261.
The LEGO Lions
A group of very talented students from Lunsford Middle School invented the Floodie, a life jacket with a hood that can inflate in less than 3 seconds when submerged in water. After years of working together to present the Floodie at competitions, tournaments, and conferences, the LEGO Lions earned themselves a patent for their invention. HJ 259 is passed today to say GO LIONS!
Loudoun County High School Sports
Many LCPS high schools have achieved great things this past year, including Potomac Falls girls' lacrosse (HJ 244), Rock Ridge boys' tennis (HJ 263), and Freedom gymnastics (HJ 347). Congratulations to all these amazing athletes!
Sometimes resolutions can also be offered to memorialize and celebrate the life of someone who has passed away. Nabra Hassanen was a bright, cheerful young woman who was tragically murdered on Father's Day 2017. I can't imagine the grief that the family has endured, and I offered this resolution to remember her forever in the Virginia Acts of Assembly.
Resolutions are one of my favorite parts of session because I get to celebrate my constituents. Thank you for the opportunity!
If you haven't gotten a chance yet to participate in my Constituent Survey for this session, please do so by following the link below:
