Bell Bulletin: In Full Swing

Dear Constituent,

Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve you in the Virginia House of Delegates.

I want to share with you an update on the second week of legislative session this year.

1. Successes on Legislation

I've had some great successes so far this legislative session, and I look forward to continuing the work it takes to make sure my bills pass.

Several of my bills passed their first test in subcommittee meetings this week.

HB 59 and HB 134 both reported from the Transportation subcommittee. Both of these bills will help save the Commonwealth money when building road projects.

HB 286 will allow dogs inside wineries. It will be heard on the floor of the House of Delegates this week, after passing out of committee on a 20-1 vote. We have wide support for this great bill! You can see testimony on the bill here.

Another bill I'm championing this year is HB 269, which would raise National Guard active duty pay. As a veteran, I'm proud to sponsor this bill to make sure those who put themselves in harm's way for our safety and well being are taken care of.

The bill I'm most proud to carry this year is HB 107 that will help correctional officers get the workers compensation benefits they deserve. It's important to me that we take care of our state employees, especially ones whose job puts them in the way of harm every single day. I held a press conference on this bill, and it was passed and referred to Appropriations on a 5-3 vote.

2. Important Visits

I'm always glad to see my constituents here in Richmond. This week it was great to see the Chair of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Phyllis Randall in my office. Thanks for stopping by!

3. Votes on the Floor

As legislation moves through the process of committees and subcommittees, we begin to have some votes on important bills on the floor of the House of Delegates. We consider legislation from every committee, on every subject.

Every time I walk in to the House chamber, I'm always in awe of the opportunity I have to represent you in this 400-year-old institution.
